The Durban International Film festival is an established international film festival and the largest of its kind in South Africa. Once again the festival will present over 300 screenings of films from around the world, with a special focus on films from South Africa and Africa.
Screenings will take place throughout Durban including township areas where cinemas are non-existent. The festival also offers a seminar and workshop programme featuring local and international filmmakers.

5 Days That Could Get Your Film Made!

The 29th Durban International Film Festival (23rd July to 3 August 2008) is proud to announce the first edition of Talent Campus Durban held in cooperation with the Berlinale Talent Campus from 25 to 29 July 2008.

Talent Campus Durban is an intensive 5-day programme of workshops and seminars delivered by film professionals and academics. Filmmakers will benefit from both theoretical and practical approaches that will enhance their cinematographic experience. The Talent Campus Durban theme Producing African Cinema for a New World will focus the activities towards the development of new projects and ideas.

In February every year, the Berlin International Film Festival organises the Berlinale Talent Campus, which brings together hundreds of young filmmakers from all over the world. Since 2003, Talent Campus events have been held in Argentina , Bosnia and Herzegovina , India , South Africa and Ukraine.

Talent Campus Durban invites young filmmakers from Africa to apply to participate in these workshops and seminars, which take place in Durban , South Africa , over five days. In addition to specific activities offered by the Campus, the selected talents will have the opportunity to attend films and events at the 29th Durban International Film Festival.

The Durban Talent Campus is a partnership project between the Durban International Film Festival and the Berlinale Talent Campus, Berlin International Film Festival and is supported by The German Embassy in South Africa and the Goethe Institute South Africa.

The Durban International Film Festival is organised by the Centre for Creative Arts (UKZN) with principle funding and support from the National Film & Video Foundation, Department of Economic Development - KwaZulu-Natal, HIVOS, Stichting Doen, Royal Netherlands Embassy and City of Durban.
Call for Entry Deadline
Feature films, short films and documentaries are all welcome. The festival does have a competition component. The deadline for entries is 31 March 2008 for short films and documentaries; 15 April 2008 for feature films. Early submissions are encouraged.
