Poignant, cinematic and witty,Jellyfish (Meduzot),tells the story of three very different Tel Aviv women whose intersecting stories weave an unlikely portrait of modern Israeli life.Batia(Sara Adler),a catering waitress, takes in a child apparently abandoned at a local beach. Batia is working at the wedding reception of Keren(Noa Raban),a bride who breaks her leg escaping a locked toilet stall, ruining her chances of a dream Caribbean honeymoon. Attending the event with her employer is Joy(Ma-nenita De Latorre),a non Hebrew-speaking domestic worker who feels guilty for leaving her son behind in her native Philippines.Joy is a maid working for a tough old woman;unwittingly, she helps the woman reconcile with her estranged daughter. The trio separately wends their way through Israel''s most cosmopolitan city, they struggle with issues of communication, affection, and destiny—and at times find uneasy refuge in its tranquil seas. A composite film made from scraps of humanity, some verging on the absurd,Jellyfish paints a portrait of a messy world in which everyone scrapes by as best they can, looking for love and something to remember. The seemingly random movement of the title''s slippery, stinging creatures applies to the direction of the characters'' lives,as well as to the delicate, carefully crafted shape of the movie, which won the Camera d''Or for Best First Film as well as the SACD Prize during the International Critics’ Week at the 2007 Festival de Cannes.
