Synopsis
In writer-director Christian Carion’s debut feature The Girl From Paris, computer instructor Sandrine Dumez is frustrated with her life. Thirty and feeling like she’s going nowhere fast, Sandrine decides to leave her job and pursue her childhood dream of becoming a farmer. She completes a course in farming and buys a farm on the outskirts of Paris.
The farm’s elderly owner Adrien resents having to leave the farm that has been in his family for generations and insists that he will stay until his new home is ready. Cantankerous and lonely, Adrian relishes the thought of watching the proud city girl fail.
Sandrine is well-aware that Adrien has no faith in her abilities but is determined to turn the run-down farm into a successful venture. She creates a web site that allows visitors to buy the farm’s goat cheese online. She also promotes it as a destination for eco-tourists and organises tours of the farm. Her ideas work and before Adrien’s eyes, the farm’s fortunes climb high – which of course does nothing to help their already frosty relationship. A battle of the wills ensues between proud city girl and stubborn country farmer.
When a harsh winter sets in, Sandrine realises she needs Adrien’s expertise. Adrien falls ill, and realises that this city girl might just come in handy after all. Slowly, the frost between the two begins to melt, and a bond of love and companionship is born.
