Set in the violent, cannibalistic world of business and high finance, The Company Of Men is a black, highly political fable of power and corruption, vengeance and renunciation. It is the story of a young man, Léonard (Sami Bouajila) who is the adopted son of a wealthy arms dealer, Henri Jurrieu (Jean-Paul Roussillon).
When Léonard finds himself caught in a web of lies and brutality, he is desperate to escape from Jurrieu''s shadow. He is manoeuvred into an ill-advised business deal which leaves him open to blackmail at the hands of his father''s vengeful enemies. Trapped in a world he wants no part of, he is forced to betray his father and eventually renounce everything.
Adapted from Edward Bond''s play, Arnaud Desplechin''s film is a compelling tragedy, rich in violent poetry. It is a savage portrait of a divided world. The film premiered at the 2003 Festival de Cannes.
